Remembering Hugo

In the fall of 2006 after completing their theological training at Word of Life Argentina, Hugo and Sarah Liborio began raising support to join our Dominican staff. In November of 2008, the wait was over. The young couple along with their infant, Matias, arrived in the DR and began serving. Hugo was a  group leader, translator and led the worship during staff run devotionals and at the Juan Dolio church plant. Hugo often times reminded us that worship is not just music, it is living a life that pleases God.

On tuesday, December 22, after suffering a brain aneurism, God saw fit to take his servant home. Hugo lived a full life in his 29 years. One of his favorite songs to sing was by Brandon Heath. The song says, “give me your eyes for just one second, give me your eyes so I can see, everything that I keep missing, give me your eyes for humanity”. I believe Hugo prayed that constantly, because God did give him eyes to see the lost world around him and he took advantage of every opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Hugo also wore rubber band bracelets on his wrist. The one he wore the day he passed away said, “I am second”. May his life of living this theme be a challenge for us to do the same.

Hugo is survived by wife Sarah and children Matias (2 years) and Layla (2 months). Sarah’s faith has only strengthened during this time. At Hugo’s funeral she stated that she consider it a privilege that God would allow her to go through this difficult trial. We know that He will never give us more that what we can handle, and so He will help us though this time. Sarah will return with the kids to the DR on January 18.

A fund has been set up for Sarah’s expenses. Would you consider giving a gift of whatever size possible?
